Imagination Technologies Demonstrates the Power of Graphics in Automotive Applications

3D For Navigation, User Interfaces and Virtual Dashboards on Show at CES 2008

Las Vegas, 7th January 2008: Imagination Technologies a leader in System-on-Chip Intellectual Property (SoC IP) is demonstrating the latest in 3D automotive graphics technologies at International CES 2008.

Imagination’s POWERVR graphics acceleration cores are the leading 3D hardware technology for car navigation systems and are already shipping in products featuring 3D maps and user interfaces.

Imagination works with key players in the market including its long standing partner Renesas, as well as NEC, Freescale, and Centrality (SiRF).

Imagination, alongside its licensing partners and members of the POWERVR Insider ecosystem, is now also targeting ‘virtual’ dashboard applications, with demonstrations being showcased at CES.

POWERVR MBX is used in the Renesas SH7770 and SH7775 SoCs for high-performance car information systems, which currently lead the market in automotive 3D deployment, as well as in the Freescale MPC5121e telematics processor.

POWERVR SGX is enabling shader graphics acceleration in the new NEC NaviEngine1, the most powerful single-chip system LSI solution optimized for car navigation systems, which is sampling now.

Further POWERVR enabled automotive SoCs are in development by other Imagination licensees, including Centrality (SiRF), a leader in ‘location-awareness’ semiconductor products.

Automotive end-products using POWERVR are shipping now from brands including Clarion, Mitsubishi and Pioneer.

Says Tony King-Smith, VP marketing, Imagination Technologies:POWERVR takes navigation, entertainment and dashboard graphics to the next level in factory fitted, after-market and personal navigation devices, enabling features such as realistic 3D rendered landscapes and city views. It also promotes user interface innovation key for applications where flexibility, individuality and safety are factors.

International CES 2008 in Las Vegas runs from January 7th-10th and the Imagination Technologies booth is at South Hall 2 #25959, Las Vegas Convention Center.
