EDIT: The past year brought allot of changes into the market and it looks like
mobile gfx is now finally matured. Including the entry of two new
competitors (ARM Mali, nVidia Tegra 2) that have allot of catch up to
ImgTec.

The TI wiki features a complete list of
products that are cheap and make PowerVR SoC development very affordable

Gigabyte M528 http://www.umpcportal.com/2008/03/1297/Â - MID - ~$800 - Availability: June/July 2008

excuse me.  But that is an atom device.  SGX535.

My understanding is that this support OpenGL 2.0 rather than OpenGL ES 2.0 which are completely different.

Hi icarafu,

The Intel Atom has a PowerVR SGX535 powered chipset called the Intel Poulsbo (other chipsets are also available depending on the ATOM family used). PowerVR Cores are designed with the OpenGL ES 1.x or 2.x specifications in mind. However they may be able to run OpenGL and Directx10 content depending on driver availability. Much like your OpenGL home/notebook graphics card can be used to emulate OpenGL ES 2.x content.

Hope this helps. Expect the ATOM 2 (2009) to have the graphics chipset part integrated. For the time being the Intel chipset is a very hungry device compared to the ARM powered solutions.

The BeagleBoard is available NOW! thru Digi-Key for $149

http://dkc1.digikey.com/us/mkt/beagleboard.html

For order over ~$100 or €65 shipping is free.

Caveas: ATM there are no publicly available OpenGL ES 2.x drivers for this platform.

At Gigabyte M528:

Has anybody experiences with the Gigabyte M528 in developing OpenGL ES 1.x and 2.0 applications? (Hardware support, extensions, performance )?

Is there support for OpenGL ES 2.0 (libraries etc. ) and is there an OpenGL ES 2.0 emulation on top of OpenGL if no native support exists?
