GPU Hardware Acceleration Support For GNOME Desktop

Hello Everyone,

We are in the process of enabling GPU HW Acceleration for GNOME Desktop on my riscv platform. After installing the GPU Kernel Driver (pvrsrvkm.ko) and exporting the necessary files of DDK for Wayland WS. We’re installing gnome-desktop packages along with all required dependencies on Ubuntu 22.04, We are able to log into GNOME Desktop successfully. But, the main issue we’re facing is that GNOME Desktop is defaulting to use ‘softpipe’ graphics setting instead of utilising our platform’s IMG-GPU GE8300 IP.

We are seeking guidance on how to configure GNOME to properly utilise the hardware GPU Accelerator. We’ve performed several experiments on GNOME to use IMG_GPU as it’s Graphics options, but haven’t been successful in doing it. Please do share you’re inputs and any support or guidance is highly appreciated.

Thank you.

Regards,
Sharan

Hi Sharanabasava,

Thanks for your message, and welcome to the PowerVR Developer Forum!

The set of questions mentioned here are related with the ones from your colleague RaviKiran from a former Post ( Enabling the support for Wayland-GNOME Window Manager on Ubuntu 22.04 on GPU ) and unfortunately require internal support.

I recommend you try to add your questions to some of the internal tickets which are still open.

Best regards,
Alejandro

Hi @AlejandroC ,

Thanks for your reply.

We attempted to address this issue with the internal support we have with the Imagination team, but unfortunately, we did not receive much helpful assistance. As a result, we decided to seek help from the open-source/imagination forums.

Regards,
Sharan
